What is Polyhedral Dice?

It's Saturday Night Football at my place where few of my friends came over to hang out and watch the game. My friend Jack was over my computer desk and said to me, "dude! your dice collection looks weird, they look different except for the cube ones used at the casinos and in board games".   

So What is Polyhedral Dice? 

A polyhedron is a three-dimensional shape with flat polygonal faces such as a cube, prism, or pyramid. On the other hand shapes like cones, spheres, and cylinders are not polyhedrons because their sides are not polygons.

Polyhedral dice is a set of dice consists of 7 different dice.

So we will breakdown for you all the 7 dice and what each dice is 

1. D4

 
So D4 is a four-sided dice, abbreviated as D4. This dice comes in the shape of a tetrahedron also known as triangular pyramid. So for the result there is only 4 outcome; 1, 2, 3 & 4.

2. D6

So D6 is a six-sided dice, abbreviated as D6. This dice comes in the shape of a cube(6 square sides). There is only 6 outcome in a D6 dice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6

3. D8

So D8 is a eight-sided dice, abbreviated as D8. This dice comes in the shape of a Octahedron( is a polyhedron with eight faces). There is only 8 outcome in a D8 dice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 

4. D10 

So D10 is a ten-sided dice, abbreviated as D10. This dice comes in the shape of a pentagonal trapezohedron. There is only 10 outcome in a D10 dice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10

5. D12

So D12 is a twelve-sided dice, abbreviated as D12. This dice comes in the shape of a a dodecahedron. There is only 12 outcome in a D12 dice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12

6. D20

So D20 is a twenty-sided dice, abbreviated as D20. This dice comes in the shape of a a ICOSAHEDRON. There is only 20 outcome in a D20 dice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,12 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 18, 19 & 20

7. D100

So D100 is a ten-sided dice, abbreviated as D100/D%. This dice comes in the shape of a a standard pentagonal trapezohedral shape. There is only 10 outcome in a D100 dice 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 & 100. D100 is a percentile dice

How Do You Use The D100

So using a D100 is interesting. For the gameplay you need to use the D100 & the D10 to roll at the same time. Let's see the example below.

For the result above is 60. When a D10 lands a 0 then the D100 die result (60) will be use.  

For the result above is 88. When a D10 lands a 8 then the D100 die result lands an 80. So we add them together and both result in 88.

So What is Polyhedral Dice use for? 

When we hear the word dice the image comes to mind is the 6 sided cube that we play with our favorite board games. 

So the polyhedral dice is use for fantasy tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. So each dice has its own representation of actions like strikes, battle damage, weapon or spells.

Sounds fun right? Even looking on YouTube, these players complete lost in their fantasy world and a having a great time.
